kicks off 20th anniversary year with groundbreaking ceremony for new
headquarters
Memphis-based company to open new facility in
spring 2011
Memphis/May 21, 2010 – – –Onyx Medical
Corporation, a family-owned, Memphis-based manufacturer of medical devices,
recently broke ground on a new manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters–the kick-off event for its 20th anniversary year.The ceremony was held April 7, 2010 at
the building site.
Established in 1990 and owned by members of the
Gilmore family, Onyx Medical manufactures high-quality precision devices that
include drill bits, screws, pins and wires for use in the orthopedic industry.
Onyx currently operates out of a 30,000 square ft. facility on Collins Street
in midtown Memphis.The new
facility, located on Shelby Oaks Drive, just off of Sycamore View and I-40,
will be approximately 53,000 sq. ft., and readily expandable up to 72,000 sq.
ft. Designed by Belz and built by Linkous Construction, it is expected to open
in spring 2011.
“It’s more than fitting to commemorate Onyx’s 20th
anniversary by building the foundation for the next 20 years of strategic
growth,” said Jodie Gilmore, vice president strategic business development.
“It’s a gift to all of our employees and business stakeholders.”
The new facility represents a $6.5 million total
investment, including both the building and capital equipment expansion, and
the resulting creation of at least 17 new jobs.Onyx looked at several options when determining how to best
build for the future, and remains committed to staying in Memphis.
A group of more than 100, including Onyx
employees (several of whom have been with the company for 15 or more years) and
special guests, were treated to a tour of the building site and a commemorative
groundbreaking ceremony. The company will continue to celebrate this milestone
with mini celebrations for employees as well as community give-back events
throughout the anniversary year, all leading up to a grand-opening ceremony for
the new facility.
